Are you new to parenthood and feeling like you want to turn in your parent card? Are you feeling depressed, miserable and guilty because this should be a “wonderful” time in your life? Do you cry a lot and have mood swings? You could be experiencing Post Partum Depression or new to parenthood blues. Parenthood can be one of the most amazing experiences in life, and yet it can also be one of the most challenging experiences with new roles, expectations, and responsibilities. New parents can experience feelings of joy and excitement, and also of loss and uncertainty. With the introduction into parenthood, there is a natural sacrifice of ones time, skills, and future plans; this can cause feelings of bitterness and anguish.
In counseling new parents we provide education and counseling services to help you adjust to your new role as “Mom” or “Dad”. We know from experience that the pressures are enormous. We help you to process these new parenting experiences and honestly express your feelings. We also help you identify what being a parent means to you, and work collaboratively with you to resolve any parenthood problems you may have. We will talk about topics such as your parenting identity, life goals, post partum depression, the changing relationship with your partner, and parenting styles. We can also address other parenting concerns that you may have including feeding, sleeping, and breast-feeding. Lastly, we want to leave you with a real sense of hope, understanding, and knowledge that you have the skills and love to become an excellent parent.
